PromptSharp is a browser extension and companion API that rewrites a rough question into a fully-specified prompt before you send it to an AI chat tool. This page describes, plainly and specifically, what data PromptSharp collects, why, and who else sees it. It's written to match exactly what the code does — not a generic template.

Data we collect, and why

Data Why we collect it Where it's stored
Email address To sign you in via a one-time magic link and to track your free-trial usage against your account. We never receive or store a password. Our database (Supabase), for as long as your account exists.
Your own Anthropic API key (if you provide one) To let you use PromptSharp with unlimited rewrites via your own Anthropic account instead of our free-trial pool. Encrypted on your device only, in your browser's local storage. It is never sent to our servers — when you provide your own key, PromptSharp calls Anthropic's API directly from your browser, and the rewrite never passes through PromptSharp's infrastructure at all.
Your IP address, in hashed (irreversible) form To rate-limit sign-up attempts and prevent abuse of the free trial (a small number of sign-ups allowed per network per day). We never store your raw IP address — it's converted to a one-way cryptographic hash before it touches our database. Our database, tied to sign-up events only.
A random device identifier A random ID generated once when you install the extension and stored in your browser — not derived from your hardware, browser fingerprint, or any identifying characteristic of your device. Used only to limit how many free-trial accounts can be created from one browser install. Your browser's local storage, and our database (tied to sign-up events).
Free-trial rewrite count How many free rewrites your account has used this month, to enforce the trial limit. Our database, tied to your account.
The text you ask PromptSharp to rewrite To generate the rewritten prompt. If you're using the free trial, your text is sent to our server, forwarded to Anthropic's API to perform the rewrite, and the result is sent back to you. We do not store the content of your prompts — it is processed for that one request and not written to any database. If you're using your own API key, this text never reaches our servers at all (see above). Not stored. Processed in real time only.

PromptSharp's browser extension reads and rewrites text directly inside the chat box on the AI site you're using (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and others) — it does not transmit that text to those sites on your behalf. Anything you subsequently send to those sites is sent by you, the same as if PromptSharp weren't installed.

Third parties we share data with

Service What they see Why
Anthropic (Claude API) The text you ask to be rewritten. They perform the actual rewrite. This happens whether you use the free trial or your own key.
Supabase Your email address, hashed IP, device identifier, and trial usage count. They host our database and handle sign-in authentication.
Resend Your email address, at the moment we send you a sign-in link. They deliver the magic-link sign-in email on our behalf.
Cloudflare Standard web request metadata (as with any website you visit). They host our API and this website.

We do not sell any data, to anyone, ever.

Payments

PromptSharp does not currently process payments or offer a paid subscription. If that changes, this policy will be updated before that feature launches to describe exactly what a payment provider would see.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists and it's needed for the purposes described above. To request deletion of your account and associated data, email us at the address below — we handle deletion requests manually today rather than through an automated self-service flow.

Security

Your own API key, if you provide one, is encrypted on your device using AES-256-GCM before it's stored, with a device-generated encryption key that never leaves your browser. IP addresses are hashed before storage and never kept in raw form.

Children's privacy

PromptSharp is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

If what we collect or how we use it changes, we'll update this page and change the "last updated" date above.
